Book #3 of the Best-selling epic fantasy series Whill of Agora (Legends of Agora) "Michael Ploof is one of the indie good guys. Don't be surprised if he is soon swooped up by one publisher or another. Whill of Agora is a fine example of why I think so." - Award Winning Fantasy Author, M. R. Mathias Influenced by the works of Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, R. A.Salvator and Tolkien, Whill of Agora is a classic coming of age fantasy tale of magic, mayhem, friendship and war. Set in the realm of Agora during the Draggard Wars, five centuries after the fall of the elven lands, Whill of Agora brings readers on a heart pounding epic adventure with a colorful cast of characters that are sure to become fan favorites. Upon the frozen fields of Volnoss a strange rift has appeared. Eadon's legions have gathered; the final invasion of Agora draws near. Bound by his vow of fealty, Dirk Blackthorn finds himself at Eadon's side. His first mission; kill the entire royal family of Eldalon, leave none of Whill's kin alive. Deep within the heart of the Mountains Ro'Sar, King Roakore prepares to travel to Elladrindellia and reunite the boy Tarren with Whill. He hopes also to have the ancient dwarven tome, The Book of Ky'Dren, translated. And he trusts none but Whill to do it. Aurora prepares to face the self-proclaimed Chief of the Seven, Icethorn of Dragon Tribe. She no longer feels Eadon's power coursing through her; she begins to dare hope that she is free of the dark elf. But a pledge of fealty to Eadon is not made lightly. Avriel remains trapped within the body of the white dragon. Neither the elder elves nor Whill with his great power can find a way to return her to her body. With the racial memories of her dragon line clear in her mind, she begins to lose hold of her elven self. Whill has found the ancient elven blade of legend, Adromida. Finally he has made it to Elladrindellia, and his training with the elves has begun. Although he is safe for the time being from the reach of Eadon, a new threat arises that may prove his greatest challenge yet. He soon realizes that his greatest enemy may not be the dark elf lord, but he himself.

I just can't.
The story is going on way too long with too little progress. I am also finding too many editing mistakes in this one. It seems that the longer the series goes on, the less care was taken in weeding out typos and misspellings. Also, one silly error that really got under my skin: in one scene, a main character finds a beautiful spotted mare he is going to acquire, names her Beauty, and in the very next paragraph "puts his heels to the stallion"?? WHAT??

My main gripe is, though, that I just cannot really relate to any of the main characters. There is what could be a beautiful love story between Whill and Avriel, but it seems glossed over. All the emotional turmoil that Whill is going through just doesn't move me. The author is very good at descriptions of the world and its people, but I can't FEEL anything for them. The best character by far is the dwarf king. He seems to have the most personality.

Of course, EVERYTHING can be solved conveniently through magic. Too conveniently for my taste.

I am disappointed because I really hoped it would turn out to be more engaging.

A Song of Swords Book 3 Whill of Agora Legends of Agora Volume 3 Michael James Ploof Trevor Smith 9781492214984 Books Reviews

I started reading the series because I literary ran out of books. I was on travel and had very limited time to look for new ones. I got a sample and after reading a first few pages, I was intrigued enough so I bought the first book in series and now three books later I find myself waiting for the fourth.

I like the plot. I like how the reader is tricked into thinking that he has figured it all out and then it turns out that things are not at all that simple. The language is easy to read, the characters are interesting and the good humor of the author makes it a good entertainment.

Definitely good series that are worth reading.
Waiting for the book No.4. )
I'm only half way thru at this point but so far it's a typical Whill of Agora book. Typical in that I enjoy Michael Ploof's writing immensely. Some of the little stories in the book have been tremendously planned and are thought provoking. Some of the odd images created are way out there but that's the reason I read these types of books. I need to escape the everyday humdrum of this chaotic suicidal world. Thanks Whill or I mean Michael.

Happy reading,

Lee
No boring parts in this series. So much going on all the time. The characters are so real and the magic is unique. The elves can do all kinds of things with their magic, including shape shifting into different animals and birds or even plants! The dwarves have a different type of magic, but no less interesting. And then we have Whill. He's in a class by himself. I can't put these books down so the sad thing is, I'm going to catch up to this fascinating author in his writing and have to wait till the next installment in the series. Looking forward to every book!
Excellent read(s) - I have all of the books in the series and enjoyed each and every one of them. It would help if there was somewhere in the descriptions of the books that it gave the number of books in the series or if there is a package containing all of the books. I am often finding that after I have bought one of a series, that I later find it would have been much cheaper and easier to read all the books in the boxed set, why is that not clearly stated anywhere in the descriptions of these series? Many typographical errors... one wonders if the new kindle books do not have a proof reader to help the author prior to publishing. I am more than willing to do this for a free book every once in a while.. LOL
For the most part, I enjoyed reading this story, and I will probably continue to read it when the next book comes out. However, I will say that there's nothing in the plot that hasn't been done in every other fantasy novel since the dawn of time. Some of the dialogue is pathetic, especially the dwarves', and the editing is clearly amateur, with dozens upon dozens of typos. If the author is reading this, please, hire a couple of English majors from the nearest community college to give your manuscripts a good cleaning.
I got hooked on the first book in the series after getting it free or really cheap, don't remember. But after reading the first book I was ready for more. Michael Ploof has great character and plot development. You will find yourself really rooting for Whill to be able to defeat the many obstacles placed before him.I like the third book because a lot of questions lingering from the previous 2 books get answered, while at the same time there are still plenty of unknowns remaining. I can't wait foe the end of the story to see how it ends, but at the same time don't weant it to end. I hope it ends well, but we'll see. The only criticism I would have that once Whill finds out his true identity the story is so dark, but that is the nature of these kinds of stories, and I appreciate the moments of lgihtness all the more. I would encourage anyone who is a fan of fantasy such as Tolkien, Stephen Donaldson, Terry Brooks - to read this series.
There were so many great aspects to this book/series. Unfortunately, there were a few not so great aspects.
What I liked
The author created a world filled with rich history and landscapes. Excellent characterization of the dwarves and their history. The dwarf king's POV [point of view] was well written most of the time. Creating sun elves and dark elves was also well defined. Using rifts to shoot across from one location to another was very creative. Some sentences throughout the story were so beautifully written, I had to reread them just so I could savor the words.
What I disliked
Other characters were a bit bland with too many dying. The hero was too weak. His torture should have made him stronger and determined. The fight sequences were way too long. Emotional scenes were too short and too condensed, as if the author plugged them into the story because he had to but chose to pass by these scenes quickly. A lot of POV [point of view] head-hopping not only in scenes but in the same paragraphs, with god POV thrown in too often as well. It detracted from the flow of the story and seemed unprofessional to me. But... maybe that's the trend now.
I just can't.
